How to Repair a Garage Door

With the time of use, garage doors tend to stop functioning as they used to. This can be caused by several issues which include wear of the parts. Homeowners are encouraged to do a routine inspection on their garage doors to ensure that everything is in perfect shape. When should you do garage door repair? When there is wear on the springs, when the garage door is opening or closing slower than usual or when the bolts are loose.

Here is how you need to go about the repair.

  1. Work on the bolts and screws

The bolts and screws have an essential role to play in the proper functioning of a garage door. If you notice that the mounting bracket is not in its usual state, you should replace the bolts and the screws. However, some do not need a replacement; it is only a matter of tightening them.

  1. Align the tracks

If the tracks are out of order, the garage door will certainly not work correctly. For that reason, you need to ensure that they are aligned. In the worst case scenario, the door can actually come out of the track. For that reason, you need to ensure that the vertical tracks are uniform. The horizontal ones, on the other hand, should slant slightly towards the back of the garage.

How do you align them? Just loosen the bolts for each bracket then get the tracks back in position. Once they are back, you can now tighten the bolts and the screws. Keeping the tracks free of debris or any other foreign materials will go a long way in ensuring that they stay in place.

  1. Broken windows

Some homeowners prefer garage doors that have windows. The material used for this is usually glass. As you may well be aware, glass is fragile. It is therefore not unusual for the windows to break or get damaged. How do you repair this? Luckily for you, you do not have to replace your garage door. The only thing you will be replacing is the window panes, and it will be fixed. You can stand on tallboy wooden furniture close by to avoid stepping on glass and reach higher windows.

  1. Replace the batteries in your remote

Some garage doors are not operated manually. They come with remote controls. At times, you will find that you are getting stuck inside and cannot open the door. The problem may not be as serious as most people would think. The batteries in the garage door remote controls last for about a year. If that is the case, there is a likelihood that the door will not open simply because the batteries are worn out. To fix this, you only have to replace the batteries.

In other cases, the batteries may still be new, but the remote control is out of sync with the main opener. If that is the case, use the manufacturer’s guide on how to reprogram it.

Above are the most common problems that garage doors run into. To fix them, the tips above will be instrumental.
